An awareness creation and consultation forum to ensure women’s meaningful representation in the Ethiopian National Dialogue launching workshop organized by the Coalition for Women’s Voice in the National Dialogue for Harari Region is undertaken at Harar City on May 29, 2023.
The Coalition for Women’s Voice in the National Dialogue General Manager Mr. Aschalew Mathewos opened the session. He said the Coalition was established a year ago in March 2022 by 22 member organizations and nowadays it has more than 50 members.
He said the Coalition is governed by seven steering committees including NEWA, EWLA, TERKANFI, Benishangul Gumuz Women’s Association, Amhara Women’s Association, Human Rights Defenders Council, and its Secretariat office TIMRAN.
The opening session participants came from different governmental offices and women’s associations.
Following a brief presentation about the Coalition activities by General Manager, the participants raised questions on the selection criteria and will become participants in the forthcoming four days consultation forum from the Harari region districts and clusters already set like housewives, women with disability, local association members, farmers and pastoralists, women miners, IDPs, public service women, women traders, women in justice, elder women, professional women, marginalized women, and youth.
The participants gave valuable ideas to make the consultation form effective and vowed to support the coming four days forum. On his part, the Coalition General Manager Mr. Aschalew thanked them for their attendance and the ideas they raised for the implementation of the program.
